The formulation of the final Waikato Plan has involved its partners walking together on a long journey. Now we’re entering the home straight.

In a few short months we will have a fully-fledged final Waikato Plan ready for release and implementation.

The Waikato Plan was signed off in February by the Plan’s Joint Committee for public consultation in a strong display of regional unity. It followed extensive discussion between councils, government agencies, iwi and stakeholders.

Submissions from all sectors of the community were sought from 10 March – 10 April 2017 to ensure a wide range of views is taken into account in the development of the Waikato Plan. Submissions on the Plan have now closed. A public hearing will be held on 21 April 2017 at Waikato Regional Council from 9.30am.

Submissions will be deliberated on by the Waikato Plan Joint Committee on 30 May 2017 with the Final Plan put before the Committee for approval on 19 June 2017.  The Plan will then need to be ratified by each partner Council.

The Plan is then due for launch in August 2017 and ongoing implementation after that. We’ll keep you up to date with progress as we work through this process. Read more about the draft Plan here.
