A new implementation Joint Committee (Waikato Plan Leadership Group) will provide oversight and leadership.

The region's participating formed a Joint Committee under schedule 7 of the Local Government Act to guide the development and implementation of the Waikato Plan.

The current Joint Committee is in the process of being disbanded and the new implementation Joint Committee (Waikato Plan Leadership Group) put in place to provide oversight and leadership for Waikato Plan implementation.

The Leadership Group will be comprised of local government representatives, tāngata whenua representatives, independent non local government members (representing business and the community) and non-voting members (government agencies).

The Leadership Group will be a formally constituted Joint Committee under the Local Government Act 2002. 

The Waikato Plan is one of the Waikato Mayoral Forum workstreams. The Waikato Mayoral Forum (which includes all the Waikato region’s local mayors and the regional council chairperson) is working together to implement an integrated work programme to boost the regional economy and deliver multi-million dollar cost savings through integrated initiatives.
